The 9500 is a good station puller, but does not sound that great, and does not mod out that well either. I'd trade it in on a Sansui TU-717 and give up on the idea of low ball mods. Go high or stay home. No reason to half do a job. You can help the 9500 a bit, but it is never going to sound as good as a stock 717...
