Raid your surplus stores. Elgars can be had for as low as $25, and they are really the only solution that works. Electronic adjustable voltage regulators that come in different sizes. The most common one is a 10A model, but you can get a 30A one - I bought several.I love models 3000 and 6000, but something like that is nice too:
