Well I treated the paper cones of my Large Advents with the diluted surround glue. I can't tell you how this has affected the sound because the surrounds were shot on these speakers when I got them and I never had a chance to listen to these speakers when the original foam surrounds were new.Cosmetically, the cones now look refreshed and modern looking. I gave two light coats. The first coat basically just darkened the cone from grey to dark grey. The second coat gave a nice sheen, little less than semi-gloss finish. The cone now seems more rigid.
Why don't you pick up some cheap care speakers and give it a try first.
