I would hesitate to remove the "L-Pads" unless you are certain that you won't change cabling, amplifiers, room placement or room furnishings. I own a pair of 3s and periodically end up tweaking the controls (minmally) after I make system changes.That said, you might check with Richard Vandersteen to see if he has a recommendation, since he "voices" his designs. Otherwise, look into some of the power resistors that Michael Percy carries and experiment.
