For some reason these things just magically allow for a more realistic musical presentation. I heard really neat things when I first put these under my amps atop the Promethean platforms, but there was something seriously wrong with them as well. While providing extremely rich sound it was soon apparent that I had lost the decay from drum and cymbal hits. I then noticed that the piano was not being portrayed properly either. This is when I started playing with the O-rings and DH Cones. These items helped, but the results were still unacceptable. I then tried them under my speakers and was surprised that the good qualities were in evidence while the issues with decay and piano were no longer problematic.
After the results acheived with my loudspeakers were known I put a third set between DAC and transport and obtained still more of the smooth, rich, detailed quality these things bring to the table and again without the drawbacks experienced when the Timken's were in contact with the maple Promethean platforms.
Some day in the future I will replace the maple shelves on my Prometheans with granite and see what the results are. I doubt I will try this for quite awhile though.
