Thought I'd post up here since it's a newer thread.Just to back up a bit to earlier threads, Zog & I had the opportunity to do a quick shoot-out on my system that involved a few devices, some mine, some his. The results have been posted below but I wanted to follow-up with one of his best picks vs. my best pick, although this may be somewhat misleading.
Zog liked the Stillpoints the best under his speakers & I can understand why. They are great isolation devices, however, I could only try them under my CDP, as my speakers are sitting on carpet w/2 layers of pad vs. Zog's wood. I could've used them between the modules of my VR4GenIII's but only had 3 to play with, so pretty much eliminated trying with the spkrs. I do use Soler Points on my GenIII's & Herbie's Footer's between the modules but I wanted to concentrate on the CDP.
I found the Stillpoints to exibit more pinpoint imaging than the Brightstar combo & by that I mean the image itself was smaller than with the Brightstar combo but at the same time they were both in the same place. I would classify the Stillpoints as a tad more precise with the slightest bit of bass tightness over the Brightstar combo & give the nod to the Brightstar for overall presentation.
Given all this I still like my Brightstar combo but wouldn't mind putting some Stillpoints in for a long-term audition.
I also haven't had the chance to fully audition the Hipjoints but we both thought they had potential.
This is as far as I'm going with this maneuver & I'm now going to audition a different preamp & will keep my set-up the same, as not to add too many variables.
