Re: Treating a fireplace...an insert is worse

I have a fireplace insert in my LF corner. Worse then a fireplace it has a 12" diameter pipe for venting but the fireplace takes up a trinagular shape of approx 9ft x 6ft x 6ft in the left front corner. Besides how that misshapes the stereo image it also is a rattletrap of sorts. As it is an insert with a blower it is very open with air entering the bottom and going around the fireplace and exiting warmed at the top of the firplece. So the only space used from above 3 feet is the 12" pipe- all the other space within the large triangle is open all the way to the roof. I swear I may rip it all out and restore the 90 degree corner and put in a woodstove! What we do for our beloved hobby. I used to jam with a band and the bass player used to put his amp in the fireplace- it was fun comparing the sound difference by opening and closing the damper and watching the SPL change on the meter. So as you can see I helped you not at all-sorry just wanted moan a bit I guess. Don't forget all the other parts of the room that can be improved acoustically to better your listening enjoyment!
