JVC 1050 - -

um, being the original owner of a Paradox-modified 1050, it recently got sent to pasture. With zero hesitation.

Bought it new in 1991 for $593, modded by Paradox Enterprises in '95 for $750. Thirteen years is a long time for consumer digital electronics, though JVC was certainly very progressive in the engineering of this unit; except for the regressive, horrible front panel ergonomics/styling.

The current MSRP is too high; I have a 7-8 point bitch list that I sent to the audio designer and manufacturer; you'll never mistake it's output for analog; it won't improve crappy CD's, but - it's a serious educational product in that it caused me to re-evaluate my personal analog vs digital preferences.

It's a mildly dealer-modded McCormack UDP-1, that I've added EAR SD-125 to the horribly ringy top cover, and placed on a Neuance platform. Riveting, as the saying goes; analog? Not.
