Hi Larry:

The Cyberhome (what a name!) is the Cyberhome CH-DVD-300, available at Walmart for about $38 U.S. (a perfect candidate for cryoing, wouldn't you agree?)! I can tell you that when I plugged it in at first, even after running the burn in disc for six hours straight and replacing the glass fuse with a ceramic, it was awful (read absolutely unlistenable) compared to the stock Toshiba.

Lots of variables in this experiment. After I had the Toshiba cryoed, I added some rope caulk on some of the chips on the board as well, so don't know whether this has negatively affected things. The Toshiba may just require substantial further re-break-in following the cryo (but I have always had pretty good success with the burn-in CD I use), and it was only on for about 7 hours (but playing a burn-in track for about 3 of the 7 and music the other 4) when I did the comparison (the Cyberhome was dead cold when I plugged it back in and did the comparison, so advantage in that regard should go to the Toshiba) so there may be the issue of the circuitry needing to be on for a longer period of time.

Who knows? But for right now, the cryoed Cyberhome is the king, and it was not subtle. For now, the Toshiba gets some more use downstairs with further evaluation in a few months.
