Usually because I've been plugging and unplugging something often enough to believe that a retouch was warranted. OK, this definitely hints at "it wasn't working the same as it did originally because it's now worn off". Yeah, exactly.But often enough I've reapplied it just because I've been there. Like, I'll adjust one set of RCA's, but because I'm there already, I'll touch up the others nearby, or perhaps the AC.
It's not a maintenance thing at all, and I never would have thought it ought to be. Well, maybe after a year or two it might make sense to clean it all off and start again.
