Do you mean common mode choke or toroidal core in general?If the magnetic fields are opposite (I mean if that is the right way to wind it) then the magnetic fields "cancel" each other and saturation is avoided practically in all situations (I think?)
I'm going to use a DC filter in front of the filter (I will add a bypass switch in case I don't wan't to use it). I use this configuration:
