Very quiet sound & no LCD display on DVD player (quite long)

Hi,
Don't know if this is the right group, but I've got a problem with a Toshiba DVD player (UK model). It was working fine until I decided to sell it to a friend. I set it up in her house, and at first it seemed ok, there was sound but there was no picture! I checked the scart lead to find that 3 wires had broken off, so I re-soldered them, plugged it back in and still no picture. At this point I re-checked the scart lead to find out I wired it wrong (I copied the other end of the lead but I should've wired it reverse to the other end of the lead, if you follow me?). Anyway, I finally fixed the scart lead properly, but this time there was a picture but very very quiet sound and no LCD display on the unit! I tried another scart lead with the same results! Is there any way that the incorrectly wired scart lead damaged the player? It seems strange that the sound & the LCD display should pack in at the same time. I have some electrical knowledge and I'm willing to attempt to fix it myself. I've checked all the internal ribbon connectors and they seem fine. Any help please?
