Perhaps there's more than one type of Mortite. The only Mortite I've ever seen is exactly what you are asking for - it's very clay-like and has no adhesive. I've used it in many different capacities and it's never dried up on me. Applying a thin layer of it is not too difficult, either. It does tend to stick to your fingers, but you can use some wax paper between it and your fingers.-Pete
