the explanation I read was that you take a series of prime numbers, square them (that's the quadratic part), and keep the residue (what's that ?).... the length of the prime series will determine the bandwidth of the diffusor. Second question... how do you optimize the width of the diffusor wells ? As each well is a resonant cavity, do you treat each one as a Helmholz resonator ?
