(I'm sharing believes rather than facts. So I'll appreciate your patience for such upersonal believes.)Unlike light bulbs, music comes in very short instaneous bursts in very short period of time, for just for the basic fundamental frequency of the musical notes but for the timber (overtones). This seems to match up with claims that "there is life above 20KHz:.
This seems to be a major problem to provide often small but extreme time-sensitive amount of current as and when needed (so that the music sounds effortless and the background is "blacker" and there are more "space" between instruments.... etc)
Another thing is that I don't believe (but I don't have proof either) the batter is capable of producing electricity in a "microscopicallly" smooth manner, though it could also be abundent. Think of anything that may bubble when electricity is produced from the chemical energy stored.
In both cases putting some caps (as we do for retification of AC) will help. I tend to put high speed ones to make sure the high end of frequency spectrum is satiated because we have no "sign wave gaps" to plug here and also long wires from groups of batteries attracts RFI.
I guess this is all people say about the "speed" of batteries. The key is instaneous current.
