For a week now I have had two 0.47uF Auricaps (600v flavor) in my CD player. I placed it behind the fuse and thus out of the A/C when not in use (there was no other way to do it in the player short of tearing out the stock IEC inlet and rebuilding the on/off switch, etc.). On second thought, I prefer to have the caps not exposed to live voltage when I am not listening to music and thus monitoring the system.

Impact? I must have really poor power: after adding the caps everything transformed! Even though the CD player is hooked to a Risch power outlet/filter that follows a dedicated 12amp OneAC isolation transformer, the moment I powered up the player with the Auricaps installed the soundstage sharped up as if somebody turned on the auto focus on a camcorder. Things that were vaguely in space before seemed to have snapped into place. Over the coming days the effect gradually increased - now every album I put in sounds vastly different from what I recall andI am back to a "rediscover your record collection" phase. Things seem quieter, high frequencies are more defined, and especially the sharp sounds in vocals are now crisply defined and don't sound like a bad recording anymore, rather what a human voice should sound like at those extreme frequencies. Previously I had thought that the sharp "s" in vocals was an issue with the DAC in the player - perhaps it was the transport, but whatever it was, I would not want to go back to what it was like.

This tweak ranks in the top 5 of all the tweaks I have ever tried (and there's a lot - just search this forum for a recent post where I summarized the things I have done), and it was one of the easiest and most affordable upgrades.

Now I am contemplating to put the same tweak into my Bottlehead Foreplay preamp. If I get similar results with the analog device, I'll move on to the two mono block amps, which are currently running without any power filtration, straight off the wall plug. Has anyone tried this tweak on large high current power amps?

Sidenote - after the initial immediate success with the 0.047uF Auricaps, I decided to bypass these caps with two 47pF 1000V caps - hard to tell if this did anything, but it definitely didn't hurt. High frequencies are crisper than ever, which may be due to continued break-in of the Auricaps, or because I bypassed them with some really small caps.

Highly recommended, especially if you can fit the caps into the caps behind the fuse and power switch for some added peace of mind.
