Re: zobel on tweeter?

216.227.140.167

Here's the simple version formula from the Loudspeaker Design Cookbook (and as V. Dickason points out, only an approximation of the values)

Rc= 1.25* Re where Re is the DC resistence of the voice coil

C= Le/Rc**2 where Le is the voice coil inductance in Henries

The result you getfor C will be in Farads so you get something like; 0.0000067 which equals a 6.7 uF cap.

Hope this helps. And BTW, adding a zobel to at tweeter circuit really does tame silibant harshness, I added zobels to my Audio Passions and the result was immediate improvement. The highs were MUCH cleaner, sweeter, and greater air and staging. Surpringly, I've examined quite a few other speaker's XOs that don't use zobels. In sev. cases I've added a zobel network to both the woof and tweeter in order to determine if it made any appreciable difference. In every case, the speaker sounded MUCH better. So why don't the orig. manufacturers put zobel circuits in their XO designs? Just a point to ponder.

Regards
