Re: Want a DIY Tuner

I just built what I call "Charley Tuner." I hadn't had a tuner in 20 or more years. I built one out of an old Sony car stereo I had. I remover the CD player that didn't work anymore (it just plugged out.)Next I removed the power amp, I wouldn't be using it and it used 300ma of current. Then I removed two small capacitors from the preamp output jacks. They were .1uF to ground and made it dull. The coupling caps were to small at 10uF, so I made them 100uf. When I lowered the output impedence from 960 ohms to 200 ohms it became HIFI! At this point I went through it and found the capacitors feeding the tuner and made them all 1000uF. I ordered an antenna from Audio Advisor and together with a connector from Radio Shack I had a first class tuner. OH! I did have to make a power supply but a 24V 2A CT from my junk box and a 7812 regulator worked fine. I get every station where there is supposed to be one and the imaging is as good as the rest of my system. Lots of depth and detail. Since when have you heard anyone use the work detail when speaking of a tuner? bobwire
