I have not experimented with different tube sizes, the tubes I got were almost exactly 2" ID, and the typical 2 1/2" HD PVC pipe will have a 2" ID.It should not affect tube tuning, as this is almost strictly due to length, but it might affect the diffussion performance, as the width of the outer pipe dimension is going to change how that works. I would stick with the proper nominal OD as a rule.
