This was posted on one of the ads on Ebay:Providing you have the Philips CDR 870, here it goes.
1. Turn on unit (empty) press open
2. Insert the music only CD and press close.
3. Wait for the OPC (optical power calibration) to calibrate.
4. When the display reads 0(TK) 0:00(Time) open the door with your fingernail under the door carefully, (not worm gear driven) and pull the door 3/4 the way open to manually extract the music only CD.
5. With door 3/4 way open, insert the Data CD.
6. Close door manually, (gentle push all the way in)
7. Press the REC button.
8. Display should say 01(tk) 0:00
9. Begin recording, use as normal.
10. DO NOT FORGET TO FINALIZE
11. When finalized, you can push the open button and your CD is complete.
12. You only get 99 boot-ups from the music CD.
13. After the 99TH boot-up the display will say OPC fail
14. The Music only CD is now trash.
15. You get a warning on the 99th boot-up saying OPC FINAL, just burn to that one, to keep from wasting it.
16. Go out an buy a new "music only" CD for 99 more boot-ups.I don't know if it will work with others, but it's sure worth a try.
