It's an unnatural taint. Yeah, like that helps, right?It's like all the characteristic frequencies & dynamics that comprise an instruments voice are still practically in tact at their nearly proper amplitudes but rearranged so that the signature waveforms have been altered to sound completely different.
In addition to the aforementioned conducting through steel parts, I've heard similar sounds from amateur solder joints (ie: large gobs) made with cheap solder, but no manufacturer does this let alone a high-end one. I wonder if this happens with every alloy. For instance, I've heard old bass jacks sound almost like a guitar is being played inside a muted trumpet.
Sorry, I can't be more specific, but the sound is just irritatingly wrong.
