Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

So....after fooling around for about a year I finally have the power supply to my Pass A-75 up and running and I'm about to try and test the main board using my PC soundcard as a signal generator. Any tips from those more experienced than I? So far, everything has worked pretty much as planned, from matching the mosfets to firing up the PS for the first time. I am concerned about the need for a Variac (since I don't have access to one) - is there a poor man's alternative for the second stage of testing? Also, what have others who have built this beast done for the output board? I am willing to try a DIY-etching solution to work with the IRF9640/640 mosfets in TO-220 cases but it would be interesting to here about other experiences first. I have large, flat-surfaced finned heatsinks that I can drill, tap, or mount secondary aluminum angles to...in fact, I started fabricating the angles in anticipation of using the TO-3 devices in the original instructions but neither they nor their closest cousins seem to be available any more (at a reasonable price).
Many thanks,Dave
