Re: where can I get hospital grade in Australia?

203.109.214.84

Standard Aussie outlets are at least as good as the best available in the US. I prefer Clipsal, but not because of sound quality, I just think their stuff is slightly better, construction-wise. Someone else may have an equally valid opinion. You should know that Aussie electrical standards are amongst the highest in the world. US standards are amongst the lowest. It is not surprising that a market for 'hospital grade' components, has arisen in the US. Such a need does not exist in Australia. What IS important, in hospital equipment, all over the world, is the level of leakage current, from the device, itself. In Australia, the sockets, in common use are excellent. Please note: This does not include 'power boards'. Some of those are spectacularly bad quality.

Probably the best thing to specify would be a 15 Amp socket. These have beefier pins and more secure wiring points, than standard 10 Amp ones. The only visible difference (AFAIK) between a 15 Amp point and a 10 Amp one, is the provision for a larger earth pin. The standard earth pin will fit. A 15 Amp socket is MUCH more expensive than a 10 Amp one.

More importantly, is to use decent wire from your fuse box, to the (dedicated) power socket. I use 6.5mm cable for my hi fi system. My electrician said I was crazy. Crazy like a fox, I said. Anyway, I had the last laugh. I sold him some nice ME stuff, after the install, when he realised what decent hi fi was all about. Bottom line with the 6.5 mm cable, is that is cost about $200.00 for labour to run the power point and $40.00 in cable (6.5mm). A no-brainer, for me. The sound improved significantly.
