Advice on TT plinth

152.163.207.204

I have a pickup bed witth material for my new plinth. Have MDF in 6mm and 17mm, and particle board in 6mm, plus 12mm acoustic ceiling tiles.
The TT is an old but cherry Rekokut K33H from which I'm using only the motor and bearing/spindle/platter. I intend to mount the motor and controls in one heavy assembly, and the bearing/spindle/platter in another. These assemblies will sit on the plinth that I'm going to build. The motor will have rubber feet and the table will have spring suspension.

My thinking is to make up an outside framework of 17mm MDF about 18" X 24" (how do you like those mixed units :-)45cm x 60 cm ??? and 3", 75mm thick (high?). The bottom plate will be 17mm also, as it wil carry the weight down to the 25mm marble slab on 6 or 7 points. The top plate will be 6mm MDF.

Now, the inside I am thinking of alternating layers of acoustic tile and 6mm particle board adhered with bitumen mastic. The tiles will come out to the edge of the box and will be a press fit int he perimeter frame. The particle board slabs will be clear of the frame by a few mm.

I haven't decided whether the tiles that touch the top and bottom plates should be adhered, left nuadhered, or spaced by a thin layer of someother material such as lead, roofing felt, linoleum, etc. I want this dude to be dead !!!!!

The marble slab will mount with points in 4 places to two heavy steel wall brackets. The house is a 155 year old farmhouse with wooden understructure that is er...."springy".

I haven't cut the first bit yet, so I am open to better ideas if anyone has real experience they would be willing to pass on.

TIA and cheers/Carron
