1. gate to either drain or source will yield no dc current ie
infinite dc resistance.
2. for n-channel devices, there is a parasitic diode between
the drain and source, with the p-type material on the
source. So if you connect your multimeter diode tester range
with the "hot" lead to source and gnd lead to drain you should
get about 0.7V reading.The above confirms any doubts in case you don't know the part
