Noise in my system. RFI ? Microphonic tube ??

131.107.3.85

Hi All,

I am trying to eliminate a noise in my system. let me first describe my system.

CAL Delta/SigmaII (connected with Canare 75 ohm by Markertek)
AQ ??? (Blue colored) interconnects
Threshold T3
Monster junk interconnects
Pass Aleph 3
AQ Type 4
Silverline Sonatinas

What is the noise ?

I hear some noise which sounds like a hiss from my speakers when there is no input to the preamp/amp and the preamp volume is turned up. It can be heard from about 3-4 ft. I notice that I also hear the hiss when cds are playing but no hiss between tracks.

What did I do ?

I tried to eliminate ground loop as a potential problem. I used cheater plugs to float the ground pin on my preamp, cd transport, and dac. The noise is still present. Then I started eliminating components. It looks like the amp/preamp is really quiet. I cannot hear any noise with the volume turned all the way up and with my ears glued to the speakers. The moment I connect the dac, I get the noise.

What confuses me ?

I know the DAC is causing the problem. Is the tube in the DAC microphonic ? Can this be RFI/EMI issues ? How do I eliminate this noise ?

Thanks for any help.
Jay R
