I am thinking of a new speaker design. The design will still be a 2-way with the Manger driver crossed over at 200Hz. and bi-amped. Now, however,I will change from two 8" woofers on the front to one side mounted 12" woofer. Obviously, the side mounted woofer will provide better bass response, but this speaker will also have worse phase difference between the drivers and time alignment will be worse as well. Depending on woofer positioning, there may be comb filtering as well. Is this a reasonable tradeoff? Manufacturers like Audio Physic appear to use this design quite successfully. Any suggestions for implementation?
