A while ago my wife bought a Quad II amp /QCII/ AM2 tuner; it sits in the dining room driving an
ancient Marantz speaker. It has recently developed a quite loud mains hum. Having a look inside, I see a brown cylindrical
component labelled "HUNTS/A300/Metallised". Looking at a circuit diagram
this seems to be capacitor C1 connected between the two EF86 valves. The printing isn't
very clear, but it looks like 1uF.This capacitor is physically broken i.e. the outer casing is cracked all the way through.
So I guess it's a likely candidate for the hum problem?Does anyone have a suggestion for replacing it? Axon? I've used them with good results in
re-building a crossover.thanks for any thoughts
Andrew
