If you have a meter to measure the resistance it is real easy to figure out. Two of the pins will measure 100K regardless of rotation angle. One of those is the input and one is ground. Find the output pin by measuring from either of those input/ground pins to the remaining two. The output pin will vary from 0 to 100K as the control is rotated. Now to determine which of the input/ground pins is the input and which is ground, rotate the control all the way counter-clockwise (minimum volume). The output pin will now be shorted to the ground pin and the input pin should measure 100K to the output pin. The fourth pin is used for either muting or a loudness function in some applications I believe and will measure a constant value from the input/ground pins.

The one I have on hand is as follows when viewed from the shaft end with pins on top starting from left-most pin: (1) no connection, (2) input, (3) output, (4) ground.
