Since the discussion has touched the topic of machinists, I think I should post a bit of my (and my friends' ) experiences. We picked up a dozen of plumlines (the stuff the masons use, of course) from a hardware shop. The shopkeeper was extra-courteous because anyone who buys plumblines by the dozen must be a serious building contractor!! (i.e.,potential big-customer). The guy was completely puzzled when we wanted the cones only, without the guide ring,A minor amount of machining on the lathe (ordinary manual lathe, no CNC) got the shapes we wanted - cones with short pegs on the bases. The peg-ends were driven into holes on the bottom of the speakers (these were SRA type of columns we built). I must say we were very satisfied with the results - I mean the sound.
