Thank you very much, Jaques for the suggestion. However, i want to tell you the good news: I got the transformer rewound by a local rewinder who guaranteed to maintain the secondary voltages and pinout, and kept his word. (You see, living in India is a disadvantage for several things, but for the same reasons, this place is full of ingenuity in improvisations). I installed the transformer, and to my great relief, nothing happened to the circuitry! The unit is back on the rack, no perceivable change in the sound quality. I have also noted down the transformer voltages and pinout, just in case...Thanks, all the same.
John.
