IEC 320 : 15A vs. 20A - Is it worth it?

I am considering replacing a captive cord with an IEC 320 connector and a DIY power cord. I have seen a few people mention that you should use the 20A version because it is an overall better connector. Is the difference really worth it considering that you can't audition other power cords without physically modifying them first?
