As Brian said, raising the cables off the floor has more to do with vibration control than dielectrics. Although a carpeted floor is much worse in this respect than a wood floor. Wood however has particular resonant characteristics to each variety. You can tailor the sound of your cables by raising them up on wood blocks that favor the desired frequency range. Mahogany resonates in the midrange and will add warmth to the sound. Ebony's emphasis is in the upper treble and top octave. Teak's resonance is in the low midrange/upper bass and will decrease the top octave energy. Each variety has it's own area of emphasis- check out Mike Vans Evers site for an in depth description of this topic of system tuning. This way you can boost or decrease a selected frequency range to better balance the sound of your system. You can stack to different types of wood together to combine and alter their individual resonances. It is impossible to remove all the resonances from our systems, but it is possible to control them to suit the sound we want from our systems.
