To the best of my knowledge, Mr. Weaver's diameters are different than the commercial product. It may be that larger pipes will work as well, or even better, but that is a point of experimentation. I would imagine that Argent did this already, and used what was the best approach.
The Room lens is primarily a diffusion lens, and secondarily a Helmholtz resonator/damper. Large pipes would be only marginally better in the resonance department.
