I'm trying to figure out the eifficiency wiring woofers in parallel and powering the woofers with a bridged amp v. tri-amping.For example, I will have two stereo amps of 100wpc and 4 woofers of 85db. If I wire the woofers in parallel, I'll have electrical efficiency of 88db @ 4 ohms and a total of 91db @ 4 ohms with increased cone area. Assuming and adequate power supply (and other factors) my amps in bridged mode will deliver approximately 200W @ 8 ohms and 400W @ 4 ohms. The amp will "see" a 2 ohm load which is a tough load for any amp.
By tri-amping, I get to 88db with the increase cone area, but I don't get the electrical efficiency of wiring in parallel. However, the two amps always have an 8 ohm load. Is there a way to quantify the advantages of having an 8 ohm as opposed to 2 ohm load, assuming of course that my amps can handle both loads?
For example, as I use my Bassis unit to extend bass response, my power requirements will double for every 3db of gain added. Is there a way to calculate which configuration will give me the most amount of power to push my woofers with the Bassis unit?
