CheapSteve,Using a circulr indention would look more balanced than a oval spoon
shape. However, it doesn't matter once they're under the components where they can be partly seen depending on set up. Also the components never move that radically once set up, only when testing for placement is when they do manage to travel to the edges of the indentions.I would place some "acoustically absorbent material" like Sorbothane at the bottome to emulate Symposium's desing process. I don't know what the yellow stuff is. (it looks like modeling foam to me). Since your design has spikes I would cut the aluminum in half and place the sorbothane in the middle.
If you got access to machinery I would drill some holes in the 5-4-5 or similiar pattern to have fun and then place different materials inside to experiment.
