Connect CDP circuit ground to chassis ground directly?

Should circuit ground in CD players be connected to chassis directly or via a 100 ohm resistor? Back in 1990(?), the first batch of Rotel RCD955s went for review with direct connection between chassis and circuit ground and apparently sounded poor. The reviewer connected a 100ohm resistor between circuit and chassis grounds and all was well.
What about chassis bypass caps? Paul goudreau mentions that these can have a significant impact on sound quality.
Any opinions out there?
