Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
hey all. just wanted to let everyone know that last week i tried the cd player dampening tweak on my rotel 950 cd player. i use the player as a transport feeding a modified msb link, and the difference was pretty substantial. it was about the same improvement as when i first installed the link. the bass is tighter, deeper, more detail, a deeper soundstage and smoother sound overall. phew!the stuff i used was that tar-like compound found at my local(there are no shortages of them in my hood) car-fi shop. its used to deaden vibration in door panels, trunks ect. the stuff is pretty thin, about 1/16", comes in a roll that is 24"x48"(approx) is adhesive backed and pretty stinky. i took the top off my player and put three pieces that fit fairly snug in the top and sides. i placed another 4"x6" piece dirctly under the transport mechanism and several more smaller pieces in other exposed areas. i also put two 1" squares on top of the transport mechanism on the plastic bar that runs across the top. put it back together and put another piece on the bottom(outside) which spans between the feet. it added several pounds two the player.
the whole thing took around 20 minutes to complete. i plan on trying this stuff in different areas including the underside of my audio rack shelves and under my coffee grinder in the kitchen. thanks to whoever it was that originally suggested this cool tweak. ®
