Tom, do you have curves on the woofer and tweeter? Can you calculate a Zobel for the woofer to equalize the impedance?

Assuming you have response curves, take into account the drivers' natural rolloffs. For example, suppose your woofer is flat to about 1000 Hz, has a +3 dB peak from 2-3 kHz, and then rolls off at 12 dB per octave above that. And suppose your tweeter is flat above 3 kHz and has a well damped, roughly 6 dB per octave rolloff below that point.

I'll make a few suggestions, then you can tailor it to your specific situation.

Okay let's say you put an inductor in series with the woofer (hopefully Zoebeled) calculated to give an electrical -3 dB point of about 1000-1500 Hx. You might want to try 2 or 3 different inductor values to see which sounds best. Anyway, combined with the peak and 2nd order rolloff above 3 K this will give you a net third order rolloff kicking in around 2.5 kHz.

Now turn to the tweeter and calculate a 2nd order network for around 2.5 to 3 kHz.

You now have a third order acoustic crossover.

If you wanted a second order crossover, a notch filter to smooth the woofer's peak and a capacitor in series with the tweeter would give it to you. I'd suggest use a cap about half the value indicated for a 3 kHz crossover. The reason is, a 1st order crossover at 3 K will probably not adequately protect your tweeter, and the sound might be better with a dip in the crossover region anyway.

If you wanted a fourth order crossover your margin for error is narrowed considerably. You'd use a second order on the woof and a third order on the tweeter.

This example ignores a lot of things, but is a starting point.

Personally, if it was feasible, I'd consider adding a low-resonance dome midrange (or even a cone mid or midwoof if the woodwork wasn't too intimidating) because I really don't think you're going to get good midrange articulation from a 10" cone, and it is going to beam pretty badly. But that wasn't what you asked...
