Re: possible Linn Keilidh Modifications

Hi Herman,

The improvements in upgrading the parts in the crossover are very effective.

I feel the Keilidh have excellent potential, the drivers are excellent and the enclosure well designed and of good quality. But the crossover components are very cheap. The Bennic brand Linn uses is cheap stuff, it may be a good value but not up to the rest of the speakers. That's probably the reason why people rave about the Keilidh after they upgrade to a Linn active crossover setup.

I believe any good audiophile quality parts you pick to upgrade your crossover components will give you an improvement. I wouldn't replace the Keilidhs unless your ready to spend at least $5,000.

Upgrading the parts, in my case, didn't change the tonal balance of my system but made the Keilidh much more reveling forcing me to reevaluate my digital front end. I got a jitter device (brief review under "digital") and I ordered a new DAC for evaluation.

I picked the parts based on recommendation from the people at Sonic Frontiers The Parts Connection, in Canada. They've assisted me in modifying my Jolida integrated amplifier with great results. I spend about $300 and about 6 hours on a Saturday. This was money and time very well spent.

Let me know the kind of info your looking for and I'll be glad to assist you.

Julien
