I would tend to agree with Jon L's observations about commercially prepared foil shielded interconnects. The words added to his basic comments that are in CAPS were added by me to highlight my observations and experiences."It does make UPPER MIDS and highs sound more tamed and easier to listen to, and LOWER midrange / UPPER BASS sounds more chunky".
"You do get rid of some hash, SIBILANCE and raggedness for a smoother sound, but it takes away some of the air and immediacy".
If you have an overly bright, forward and lean sounding system ( common for many commercial SS based rigs ), these type of cables can make a HUGE difference. Of course, this is all system dependent and up to personal preference.
For those of you that might remember, I sent a cable to Mtrycraft to audition. He claimed that cables do not have a sonic "fingerprint" and sound the same. The cable that i sent him was a high capacitance design that made use of both a foil and copper braid shield. It sucks out the upper mid, rolls off the treble and adds body to the midbass. It also loses some of the air and soundstage that more translucent cables offer. These results have occured in almost every system that i've tried it in. I have no idea as to how he couldn't hear the difference. Sean
