In some ways perfect - but mass loading is a simple resonance manipulation technique - I use it to great effect on my speakers for example, but beware of psuedo science. There are a lot of ifs and buts in audio reproduction mainly due to price/managability compromise - as tweakers we are trying to put right the designers cut corners and release the true potential. As an example , My pa has a Creek amp built by the main man himself - properly tested and set up. We took this back to the shop to see the magnitude of these minor designer 'tweaks' - the damn thing near destroyed an amp costing 10* it's selling price. It smoked, period.
So, yes the rock will probably do the trick - try a chunk of concrete to suck-and-see, if you like, spring cash for the rock.. it'll be worth it.
