http://members.xoom.com/Jon_Risch/cd-sand.htmSand is a very neutral and powerful vibration damper, so would be less likely to have a signalture than the various clays/putty;s, etc.
You can also place your Cd player on ttop of a set of four 2/3 filled sand bags, using sandwich or quart sized zip lock bags, and also place some bags on top of the lid. With the CD player in a sand bag sandwich, and a sand bag on top of the crystal, the sound gets smoother and more defined.
