Bod,Ah, you bring back memories of my #2 son's first speaker project. he wanted a sub for his system ( my old yamaha intergrated, tape deck, etc) He couldn't wait for my help in constructing a cab for the 12" woof he bought from a friend, so he and a bud found an old cardboard document box (actually fairly strong) and put the 12" woof into it. To make a long story short, it worked (in a fashion) but tended to jump and hop around the room. I still chuckle thinking about it! It was far more entertaining watching it wobble around the room than any real bass it produced. Thanks for the smile.
