Can anyone suggest an upgrade tube for the 5814As in the output stage of my AMC cd6-5404as? The manual apparently contemplates the tube output stage as an "available...upgrade," and the instrauctions and specs are pretty clearly for a cd6 without the "option." Mine came that way from the factory in the first place. I'm pretty satified with it as is, but the dealer was fritzing around with some other tubes, which, even with the tiny bit of comparison I heard, made some difference. I've been told that the 5814A is a member of the 12AU7 "family" of tubes, and was in fact the variant designed for instrument use. The same guy told me that the 7316 is the dedicated audio variant. Another fellow told me to check out the Tesla/JJ 12AU7. Are these likely to give me more warmth and midrange detail and imaging? What about others? I'd appreciate comments from anyone with views on the subject. Thanks.
