Re: The "sound" of racks?

63.21.238.34

A "bad" sounding rack can make your components sound "lean", "analytical", "bloated", "slow", "lacking in bass punch", soundstage lacking in "spaciousness.

A "good" sounding rack should make your components sound "harmonically rich, but with tight sound" that live music posseses, good sense of "pace/rhythm/timing", wide/deep "soundstage", good "dynamics" etc.

A lot will depend on your components themselves, not just the attributes of the rack. Don't expect a good sounding rack to make bad (lean, dead sounding, lacking in dynamics, poor soundstaging components) to sound good. On the other hand, a bad sounding rack can make good components sound like the above description and like you just didn't get your money's worth out of your purchases. Synergy between the components and the rack is what's critical. A good rack should be able to dissipate vibrational energy in an efficient manner without "deadening" the sound of your components.
