I just finished modifying my MMgs to be able
to bi-amp. This was relatively easy to do, just time consuming. Of course, Wendell of Magnepan tried to talk me out of it mentioning that i would have to make some sort of binding posts for the extra leads. I just used the ones provided, but wired it so the resistor terminals on the bottom functioned as the "BASS" portion, while the top portion serves as the "MIDS AND HIs". (I thought it was prudent to retain the fuse!!) I had to make another pair of speaker cables, so I listened at first with jumpers. Just replacing the factory wire made a huge improvement in the bass (just when you thought it couldn't get any
tighter...).Once i made the second set of cable, WOW!! Everything is so balanced and smooth, and lush. I definately recommend it if you want to improve a great speaker!!
Now, I need an amp for the quasi ribbon. Have been considering Cj mv55, Parts connection SET amp kit with
300bs, dynaco monoblocks (this is definately the cheaper route). Are there other amps that you would recommend? Here is my current system:
MMGS
Dynaco cdv2 tubed cd player(modified)
Carver a500x(modified)(Yeah, I know)
homebrew cables
counterpoint pac5 lineconditionerI do plan to actively bi-amp, and would like recommendations on crossovers (bryston seems to be the only
game in town) but I did just spend all day soldering those crossovers, so there is no hurry!!Thanks!!
