There are no "holes" on a Cd , there are troughs , the data is not contiguous , its interleaved , the data comes off in 3 mhz sine wave, the Solomon reed correction is not perfect , there is a time component involved not just data , the laser relys on indentaions which are 1/4 or 1/2 its wavelength (Cant remember which) , the signal goes thru other transforms too.
Now heres the rub , I do CD burning and there is a correlation tween accuracy and speed of digital audio extraction and the blanace of a CD - better balance = faster extraction - IE if you use a device that makes the Cd edge concentric with its centre hole , performance improves.
HOWEVER , I have had cases where folk put stuff on the edge of a Cd and it wasnt readable in respect of DAE , removing the gunk made it "readable" again
Now Error correction itself is fraught with landmines , some errors CANT be read perfectly and thus the CDP has to decide on what course of action to take , To drop the missing sample and substitute with digital silence , to use the las correctly read sample or to interpolate.
Now when the laser sled mistracks or other processes are brought into play , one can introduce jitter cos of power supply etc.
Its not quite as simple as you make it , Audio data is NOT the same as straight purter data.
