Sand is a superior vibration absorber/damper, and is totally non-magnetic and non-conductive. About $2.50 for a 50 lb. bag, it is not at all costly.If you have the shot, try both. Sand seems to be better than lead shot, kitty litter, aquarium gravel, etc.
The deal for CD players is really more vibration control, rather than mass loading. Putting solid brick on top ofthe same weight will not do as much as an equal weight of sand.
