In Reply to: Valvo EL34 Double D Getter Brown base, are these the same as Amperex DD Getter? posted by blazter on November 1, 2001 at 19:20:32:
There was a recent article in Vacuum Tube Valley on the EL34 and also on Philips, the original developer of the EL34. According to VTV all Type II (large-diameter red or brown bases) EL34's were built either in Eindhoven, Holland, or Blackburn, UK. They were labeled as Amperex, Valvo, Mullard, Telefunken, and other European brands. Later, they had US brands stamped on the tubes. The Double-D getter versions were made in Eindhoven, which is probably where those Valvos were made. I don't believe any Type III's (these have smaller, black bases) were made with double-D getters, but I could be wrong. I have a quad of Double-D getters with Amperex Bugle Boy, Amperex, and GE labels, and in my AES DJH Superamp experience, these are excellent-sounding tubes.
